Course terms
The programs
- Live Zoom Crash Course: 6 live classes on Zoom, one a week from 7 to 9 pm Melbourne time. It runs as two groups: the Tuesday group (12 January to 23 February 2027, with no class on Australia Day, 26 January) and the Thursday group (14 January to 18 February 2027). You join one. Every level includes the Online Crash Course. Standard A$1,999, Pro A$2,999, Premium A$3,999. Premium includes a bonus Saturday site visit in person, on a Melbourne job your instructor chooses; the date is confirmed in writing.
- Online Crash Course: the same course as pre-recorded video modules, to watch at your own pace. Access opens 12 January 2027. A$999, including quizzes.
- Coaching: one-on-one help with your build. A$300 an hour on Zoom, or the Pro package A$1,499 (5 hours in person at your location). Bigger jobs at a price we quote in writing.
- Reno Crash Course: for renovations and extensions. One Saturday live on Zoom, 9:00 am to 2:30 pm Melbourne time (next date: Saturday 30 January 2027), plus a one-hour plan and quote review on Zoom, booked within four weeks of the Saturday. Includes the reno build pack. 10 seats per Saturday. A$799.
- Reno Partner: the Reno Crash Course, every trade quote checked before you sign, three site visits (before demolition, at frame, and before handover) and a monthly call with your instructor until handover. A$4,900. We take three new Reno Partners a month.
- What each level includes is set out on its page at ownerbuilderschool.com.au/programs. Every crash course level includes its build pack (the reno build pack for the Reno Crash Course). Coaching doesn't include a build pack. Prices are in Australian dollars.
How enrolment works
- Ask for a call online, or call us on 0406 038 913. There's nothing to pay to talk to us.
- On the call we help you choose the right course or coaching for your build.
- After the call, we send a payment link. A A$200 deposit holds your place. Each live group has 10 seats. The rest is due before your first session, or before your coaching starts.
- We may decline an enrolment. If we do after you've paid anything, we refund it in full.
- Fast-action bonus (crash courses): pay your deposit within 72 hours of your call and you get a free 30-minute review of your plans and budget with your instructor.
- Your partner (one other person building with you) can join any crash course free, at any level, including the Reno Crash Course.
- Upgrading: if you move up to Build Partner during your crash course, the course fee you've paid comes off its price.
- Reno Crash Course: the A$799 comes off Build Partner, or covers your first two cycles of Build Mentor.
Try-it-first guarantee
- Live Zoom Crash Course, at every level: come to the first two classes. If the course isn't for you, tell us before the third class and we'll refund everything you've paid, including the deposit.
- Online Crash Course, at every level: watch the first two modules. If the course isn't for you, tell us and we'll refund everything you've paid, including the deposit.
- Reno Crash Course: stay for the first block on the Saturday. If the course isn't for you, tell us at the first break and we'll refund everything you've paid, including the deposit.
- If we cancel a course or can't deliver a session, we'll refund you for what we didn't deliver, or move you to the next intake if you'd prefer.
- Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Coaching
- We agree the scope and price in writing before coaching starts.
- If you need to move a session, tell us as early as you can and we'll find a new time.
- Site visits happen on your site with your permission. You're responsible for the site, its safety and access, and we follow the site's rules while we're there.
- On the Premium Saturday site visit, you follow the site's safety rules and wear the protective gear we tell you about beforehand.
- Reno Partner site visits are booked with you around your build: before demolition, at frame, and before handover.
Changes
If we have to move a session, for example because of illness, we'll tell you as early as we can and offer a new time or a recording.
General information, not advice
The courses are education and general information. They aren't building, engineering, legal, financial or tax advice for your project. As an owner-builder you're responsible for your build and for meeting your legal obligations. Get professional advice for your own situation.
Not accredited
This is an independent course. It isn't accredited, and it isn't affiliated with or approved by the Building and Plumbing Commission. It doesn't give you a certificate of consent; you apply for that yourself and must pass the Commission's own assessment.
Course materials
Recordings, templates and checklists are for your own build. Please don't share them outside your household.
Advice only
Coaching, estimates, inspections and hourly help are advice only: we don't manage or arrange building work on your behalf. You stay the owner-builder.
