Renovations and extensions
Is there a course for renovations?
Yes: the Reno Crash Course. One Saturday on Zoom, five hours in build order, then an hour going through your own plans and quotes. A$799, and your partner joins free.
Reno Crash Course or the full crash course?
Extending, adding a storey or renovating the home you live in: the Reno Crash Course. Building a new home, a granny flat or finishing a half-built one: the Live Zoom Crash Course or the Online Crash Course.
What does Reno Partner add?
Your instructor on your site three times: before demolition, at frame, and before handover. Every trade quote checked before you sign, and a monthly call until handover. A$4,900, three places a month.
Choosing a program
Which program is right for me?
If you're planning your build, a crash course gives you the whole picture first, live on Zoom or online at your own pace. If you're already building and need help with something specific, coaching is the faster way in. Not sure? Call us and we'll work it out together.
Live on Zoom or online: which should I choose?
Both cover the same ground. The live course is six weekly evening classes on Zoom where you can ask questions, and it includes the online course. The online course is video modules you watch any time, at your own pace.
Which level should I pick?
Pick the one that looks closest. On your call we'll talk through your build and confirm the right level before you pay anything.
Do I need building experience?
No. Everything starts with what an owner-builder is responsible for and builds up stage by stage. If you have renovated before, you will move faster.
Can my partner come too?
Yes, free, at every level of both crash courses: one other person building with you. Watch together, or from your own device.
The Live Zoom Crash Course
Why a Tuesday group and a Thursday group?
The course runs twice, with different people in each group. Pick the night that suits you; you come once a week for six weeks.
How many people are in each group?
Ten at most, so there's time for everyone's questions.
Can I ask about my own build?
Yes. Each session ends with time for your own questions.
What if I miss a class?
The same content is in the online course modules, which come with the live course, so you can catch up any time.
The Online Crash Course
When can I start?
Access opens 12 January 2027, the same week the live classes start. Then watch at your own pace.
How is it different from the live course?
Same content. The online course is video modules you watch any time. The live course adds live classes on Zoom one evening a week, where you can ask questions, and includes the online course.
Coaching
How does coaching work?
By the hour on Zoom for A$300, or the 5-hour package for A$1,499, where your instructor comes to your site. For anything bigger, ask us for a quote.
What can I bring to a session?
Anything about your build: plans, quotes, trade contracts, your programme, a variation, a defect, an inspection coming up.
Will you run my build for me?
No. You stay the owner-builder. Coaching is advice and inspections: help to make the calls, not someone to make them for you.
Paying and refunds
How do I pay?
There's nothing to pay to talk to us. After your call, a A$200 deposit holds your place and the rest is paid before you start. On a crash course, pay your deposit within 72 hours of your call and get a free 30-minute review of your plans and budget. See the course terms for the details.
What if it turns out not to be for me?
Live Zoom Crash Course: Come to the first two classes. If it's not for you, tell us before the third and we'll refund everything you've paid. Online Crash Course: Watch the first two modules. If it's not for you, tell us and we'll refund everything you've paid. Reno Crash Course: Stay for the first block on the Saturday. If it's not for you, tell us at the first break and we'll refund everything you've paid.
About the course
Where do I find the recordings and templates?
In your private classroom and community on Skool. When you enrol you get an email invite: the class recordings, notes, slides and templates are there, and you can ask your instructor and other owner-builders about your own build. It works on your phone and computer, and your partner gets their own invite.
Is this the government owner-builder test?
No. That's a free online assessment run by the Building and Plumbing Commission, and you'll still need to pass it yourself. This is about running the build.
Is it accredited?
No. It's independent. It isn't accredited, and it isn't affiliated with or approved by the Building and Plumbing Commission.
